Collaboration between investment promotion agencies in the region

The second meeting of the Baltic Sea Region Investment Promotion Agencies is to be held on 19 June in Copenhagen as a side event to the Baltic Development Forum Summit and the Annual Forum on the EU Strategy of the Baltic Sea Region.

At the meeting, both short term and long-term collaboration between the investment promotion agencies in the region will be discussed. World-renowned experts at economic development policy Dr. Christian Ketels of Harvard Business School and Dr. David Skilling of Landfall Strategy Group are to take part with set-the-scene presentations about investment promotion in the global perspective. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and Honorary Chairman of BDF, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, will share his experiences of being an export ambassador for Denmark. Finally, Thomas Andersson, Deputy CEO of Stockholm Business Region Development, will present City of Stockholm’s strategy for attracting FDI.

The Baltic Sea Region Investment Promotion Agencies (”BSR IPAs”) is a collaboration initiative gathering national and city level investment promotion agencies in the Baltic Sea Region. The members are Invest Sweden, Invest Lithuania, Latvian Investment and Development Agency, Invest in Denmark, Invest in Finland, Enterprise Estonia, Greater Helsinki Promotion and City of Riga.

The first meeting was held in Gdansk in October 2011, in connection with that year’s BDF Summit. The objectives of the collaboration are to find areas for joint investment promotion activities in the face of increased global competition for FDI. One of the concrete activities in 2012 is an update of the Baltic Sea Region Investor’s Guide, originally produced by the BaltMet Promo project in 2011.

The initiative and the activities to be discussed are among the concrete conclusions and recommendations put forward in the report Promotion of Trade and Investments in the Baltic Sea Region – A Report on opportunities for cooperation between trade and investment agencies, produced by BDF and Tendensor for the Danish Ministry of Business and Growth.  Read more about and download the report here.

The initiative is coordinated by Baltic Development Forum (BDF) with support from Swedish place-branding consultancy Tendensor.
